WHAT IS FLOCKING?

Flocking is a printing method that involves the transfer of synthetic fibres on packaging by means of an electrostatic force generated in appropriate machinery, to obtain a pleasant velvet effect. These fibres may be of different length and colour and adhere to the surface to be printed, previously coated with a specific adhesive.

Flock is applied on various materials (glass, plastic or metal), it may completely cover a surface or create a specific decoration, such as a Greek fret or a lace effect.

As for the other processing techniques, also for flocking INDECO Serigrafia recommends submitting the decoration to the graphics department that will adapt it to the characteristics of this printing technique.

WHAT ARE THE STRENGTHS OF FLOCKING?

The main strength of flocking is the innovative aspect of this printing solution: all the items on which flock is applied are aesthetically pleasing and have an original appearance. In addition, flocking is the only printing method that allows you to get a great visual effect and a pleasant feel.

Another strength of flocking is the ability to combine this printing method with other decoration techniques, such as screenprinting. This happens frequently with packaging for the cosmetics or perfumery industry.

WHAT ARE THE LIMITATIONS OF FLOCKING?

The main limit of flocking is that it is not possible to print small letters. More generally, flock is suitable for creating lines at least one millimetre thick.

Another limit of flocking is the reduced availability of colours, especially with short flock (used, for example, to create Greek frets) for which there is a range of about 10 different colours. For coating a full surface with long flock, the colour palette is broader.

IN WHICH INDUSTRIES IS FLOCKING USED?

Flocking is a printing technique mainly used to decorate packaging intended for cosmetics and perfumery and for decorative objects for the home.

WHAT ARE THE MOST DIFFICULT WORKPIECES TO USE THE FLOCKING TECHNIQUE ON?

The most difficult items printed by flocking are those with particular shapes and angles. With regard to materials, flocking is used to decorate glass, plastic and metal with no particular limitations.
