Metallization on glass, plastic and metal

Metallization on glass, plastic and metal

Are you wondering whether metallisation is the right processing for your glass, plastic or metal packaging?

You’ll find all the answers here. If you are here, it means you’re looking for information on metallisation. Read the answers to the Frequently Asked Questions we receive about this printing technique!

WHAT IS METALLISATION?

Metallization is a printing method that consists in coating an item entirely (glass, plastic or metal) with a metal layer that can be golden, silver, green and other colours. The result obtained is a surface with mirror effect, absolutely not obtainable with other printing solutions.

This processing is done by machines that exploit absence of pressure and electrostatic force for transferring particles of a metal foil on a surface already coated by a special paint. Metallisation is completed by treating the surface again with clear coatings.

WHAT ARE THE STRENGTHS OF METALLISATION?

The main strength of metallisation is precisely the mirror effect you get on the surface of the printed object. This is obtained thanks to the process just described and with the use of clear coatings that give colour but at the same time leave the desired effect unaltered.

WHAT ARE THE LIMITATIONS OF METALLIZATION?

The only limit of metallisation is represented by the cost. This type of processing requires higher costs compared to other INDECO Serigrafia printing solutions, such as UV coating.

IN WHICH INDUSTRIES IS METALLISATION USED?

Metallisation is a printing solution that is applicable in the cosmetics, perfumery and beverage industries.

WHAT ARE THE MOST DIFFICULT WORKPIECES TO USE THE METALLISATION TECHNIQUE ON?

There are not any particularly difficult items to treat with this printing method.

WHEN AND WHY DO WE ADVISE CUSTOMERS ASKING FOR METALLISATION TO USE OTHER PRINTING TECHNIQUES?

We recommend other printing techniques in the presence of limited production. This is because metallisation involves high production costs compared to the other processes proposed by INDECO Serigrafia.
