Coating on glass, plastic and metal
Are you wondering whether coating is the right processing for your glass, plastic or metal packaging? You’ll find all the answers here.
Do you want to know more about this printing technique?
Here you’ll find the answers to the Frequently Asked Questions about coating!
WHAT IS COATING?
Coating is a decorative solution that allows to coat an entire packaging or a part of it. INDECO Serigrafia only uses UV paints that are sprayed on the surface to be printed.
Coating can be applied to glass, plastic, wood and metal and can be: soft, transparent, opaque, glossy, matte, glittery, iridescent or created in many other ways. In other words, UV coating is the ideal solution when you want to completely transform the appearance of a packaging, for example to make a clear glass bottle become white.
For these characteristics, coating is a process that is always combined with one or more printing techniques such as screen printing and pad printing..
WHAT ARE THE STRENGTHS OF COATING?
The major advantage of our process is that the coatings applied are UV. This results in a higher definition of the decorated surface, especially significant in decorations which involve nuances, and in a strong bind on any kind of material.
The other big advantage of UV coatings is that the drying process does not require the piece to be put in a furnace but only to be exposed to UV rays emitted by special lamps. Like in screen printing, this process greatly reduces decoration time.
WHAT ARE THE LIMITATIONS OF COATING?
Owing to the characteristics of this printing technique, the main limitation is with small productions, since coating requires a careful and laborious preparation of the production lines, with long times due to the number of necessary decoration tests.
Some problems may be encountered when coating glass objects previously treated with release agents, or with glass powder residues.
IN WHAT INDUSTRIES CAN COATING BE USED?
UV coating is used in sectors where you need to completely change the colour of a product, create a basis for future printing or protect a previously made decoration. The main sectors where INDECO UV coating is used are those of cosmetics, perfumery and beverages.
WHAT ARE THE MOST DIFFICULT WORKPIECES TO USE THE COATING TECHNIQUE ON?
As mentioned previously, the most difficult items treated with a UV coating are those made with glass previously treated with release agents or which have glass powder residues. Click here to visit all our interesting casestudies.
WHEN AND WHY DO WE ADVISE CUSTOMERS ASKING FOR COATING TO USE OTHER PRINTING TECHNIQUES?
We seldom advise our customers to use other printing techniques because, in many cases, coating is indispensable and irreplaceable.
